Chord V7 is also known as the "dominant 7 th " chord. It is built from the dominant triad, plus another third added on top: the 5 th , 7 th , 2 nd and 4 th notes of the scale. In C major, the dominant 7 th chord contains the notes G, B, D and F.
The maj7 is a major chord, not to be confused with the m7, which is a minor chord. The major refers to the 7th as such and not to the basic chord, which is 11 half steps up from the root. You can also think about the maj7 as to think of a major 7th as an octave minus a half step (1 semitone).
A major 7th chord is formed by playing the root (1st) + 3rd + 5th + 7th notes of a major scale. A dominant 7th is formed by simply lowering the 7th note a half step.
